Behind the Name: Vella Nest

My affinity for exquisite flowers and exotic gardens began at an early age. I spent my childhood moving around South America where I found myself immersed in the beauty of the outdoors. While traveling allowed me to see the most amazing places, not having roots sometimes made things a little lonely. To offset that, my mom created a special ritual to help us find the beauty in our nomad lifestyle. In each new place we lived, she would take us to gather branches and other natural elements to create a bird’s nest.

A nest acts as a temporary home for mother birds to lay eggs in. The interesting thing is that they never reuse the same nest, so in their lifetime they will create dozens. During our travels, my family created many of our nests, which came to symbolize new beginnings for us.

Even as an adult, they still hold a special place in my heart. I not only honored our tradition in the name of my company but carried it on by gifting each of my brides with one of their own. I hope that each nest brings a little blessing and happiness to these couples, just like it did for me.
