MEET THE DESIGNER
Hello! I’m Alexandra Turner, the owner and lead designer of Vella Nest Floral Design & Gifts. I am a well-traveled South America-native who loves being surrounded by trees and gardens. I learned early in life to appreciate the best of what nature offers. Growing up, I always knew that I wanted to work with my hands. I started my career in the Interior Design industry and through it, I found my way into floral design. Even though I am no longer in the Interior Design space, I am able to bring the principles of interior design into each of my arrangements. I truly love experimenting with color, composition and texture.
When I’m not in my floral studio designing, I’m enjoying time with my husband, Greg, and our two sons. We love hiking, gardening, cooking and renovating our home.
BEHIND THE NAME
My affinity for exquisite flowers and exotic gardens began at an early age. I spent my childhood moving around South America where I found myself emersed in the beauty of the outdoors. While traveling gave me the opportunity to see the most amazing places, not having roots sometimes made things a little lonely. To offset that, my mom created a special ritual to help us find the beauty in our nomad lifestyle. In each new place we lived, she would take us to gather branches and other natural elements to create a bird’s nest. A nest acts as a temporary home for mother birds to lay eggs in. The interesting thing is that they never reuse the same nest, so in their lifetime they will create dozens. During our travels, my family created many of our own nests, which came to symbolize new beginnings for us. Even as an adult, they still hold a special place in my heart. I not only honored our tradition in the name of my company but carry it on by gifting each of my bride’s with one of their own. I hope that each nest brings a little good luck and happiness to these couples, just like it did for me.
